Wing Span: 8.4-10.0 inches
Length: 2.9-3.2 inches
Food: Insectivore - Small bodied insects such as flies, beetles, true bugs, leafhoppers, and flying ants.
Habitat: They have been found at high elevations (2000 feet) which suggests they favor hilly or mountainous areas.
Mating: Breeds in fall before hibernation and uses delayed fertilization.
Pups: One pup around May to June.
Life span: 6 to 12 years
Facts: One of the rarest bats in North America, they are named from their small foot at 0.2-0.3 inches. This hardy species is the last to enter hibernation in the winter which is near the entrance of mine tunnels/caves where it is colder and drier. They are also the first to wake in the spring as they head out to their summer roosts such as buildings, rock crevices or vertical cracks in cliff faces.
