Food: Insectivore: They can be our nightly friend since moths are at the top of their menu. But they can also be found eating beetles, flies, grasshoppers, termites, dragonflies, and wasps.
Habitat: They are the most widespread bat in North America and found through-out the forests of United State and Canada.
Mating: They mate in the fall and use delayed fertilization to give birth tothe pups in late May or early June.
Young: They can have two pups but have been known to have up to five pups.
Life span:
Facts: Many bats have a “clicking” sound but the hoary bat has an audible “chattering or honking” sound in flight. Another unique feature is their thick and longer fur with white tips on their back giving them a frosted appearance. Due to this thick fur, they can withstand cooler temperatures and have been found in flight at 32 degrees. They are the only bat known to hibernate in the open and the only bat found in Hawaii.
