Food: Insectivore: Their food of choice are moths and can be seen eating them around the street lights. They are also known to eat crickets, flies, hoppers, beetles and cicadas.
Habitat: They are a tree bat and roost in vegetation such as tree hollows/cavities and other plants.
Mating: They mate in the fall prior to hibernation and through delayed fertilization; they give birth in mid-June. They mate in flight. The male claps to back of female by hooking his claw over the female’s wing.
Young: Two to three pups but can have four or five pups..
Life span:
Facts: They are North America's most abundant tree bat. A unique way of mating for the red bat is to mate in flight. Due to their think fur, they can tolerate cooler temperatures than most bats. They also have an interesting method to stay cool on very hot days by hanging from tree limbs stretching with the wings drooped
